Company Background

The company was established in October 2002 by Alastair Colgrain with the intention of providing a personal advisory, head-hunting and consultancy service to senior management across the full range of financial and commercial activities.

After leaving Cambridge University with an M.A. in English in 1973, Alastair began his professional career in banking with J. Henry Schroder Wagg & Co. He started his search career with The Welbeck Group Ltd in 1985, where he established and ran their financial services practise. This was taken over in 1991 by The Whitney Group, Europe, when he became Managing Director, before becoming Chief Executive of the company in 1997, and Vice Chairman Europe of the U.S. listed company in 1999.

During this time, he led the financial services practice and successfully conducted assignments in all areas of insurance and investment banking, M&A, equity and debt origination, sales and trading, principal and structured finance, investment management and private equity. Whilst the majority of this work had a London focus, he has completed assignments in Paris, Frankfurt, Milan, Zurich and Geneva, as well as New York, Hong Kong and Tokyo.

Aside from financial services, Webster Partners’ search activities have also included completed assignments at a senior level in major commercial and industrial groups, at Board and Senior Divisional level, both in quoted companies and in businesses owned by private equity firms. The Company has also concluded a number of non-Executive Chairman and Director roles across a wide range of companies in the public sector.

As well as the search practice, Webster Partners conducts management appraisals within established businesses, undertakes pre-acquisition assessments, can assist private equity firms in senior management audits, and undertakes corporate forensic assignments and delivers expert witness opinions.

Alastair was the High Sheriff of Kent 2013/2014.
